Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to enable students to recognize head and neck anatomy, to establish relationships between body structures and functions, to understand general and specific terms in head and neck anatomy and to use terminology effectively.
Course Content: Introduction to anatomy, general concepts, general-specific anatomy terms, general information about bones, skull bones, whole skull, joints, joint types, skull joints, muscular system, head-neck muscles, circulatory system, head-neck circulation, the nerves of the head-neck region, digestive system anatomy, oral cavity and saliva secretion

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Ability to define anatomy and use anatomical terminology
2) Ability to explain the general anatomical features of bones, joints and muscles
3) Ability to define the anatomical basis of head and neck vessels, lymphatics and nerve innervation
4) Ability to have general anatomical knowledge about the nervous system and to list the names of the head and neck nerves
5) Ability to obtain general anatomical information about bones, identify and distinguish bones in the head and neck region
6) Ability to obtain general anatomical information about joints and to define the joints in the head and neck region.
7) Ability to obtain general and specific information about the anatomy of the muscular system, to define the names and functions of head and neck somatic muscles.
8) Ability to identify facial muscles, chewing muscles, occipital region and neck muscles
9) Ability to explain the basics of anatomy of mouth, tongue, teeth and salivary glands
10) Ability to explain the basic anatomy of the eye, ear, nose, larynx, trachea and pharynx
11) Ability to define oral and dental health anatomy
12) Ability to recognize cleft palate and cleft lip anatomy
13) Ability to define and distinguish lower and upper jaw morphology and anatomy
14) Ability to obtain general anatomical information about the circulatory system, head-neck arterial system, venous system, lymphatic system and regional topographic anatomy and remember general and specific terms.
