Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: To have basic knowledge about microbiology and to learn sterilization processes in dentistry practice.
Course Content: Basic microbiology concepts, classification of microorganisms, brief history of microbiology, viral and bacterial infections in dentistry, basic concepts in sterilization, aseptic working rules, techniques used in sterilization and disinfection, chemicals, infection control in dental practice, sterilization cycle, sterilization control and aseptic conditions.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To have knowledge about Basic Microbiology
2) To have knowledge about the history of microbiology
3) To know the concepts of asepsis and antisepsis
4) To be able to apply sterilization methods in dentistry
5) To have basic knowledge about infections
6) To be able to learn the chemicals and tools used in sterilization and disinfection and to use the devices in this field
