Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: • To inform students about the University and Faculty. To ensure that they are informed about the university's objectives, rules, regulations and practices.
• To introduce the engineering profession and Mechanical Engineering, a branch of engineering, and to inform about the work it does.
• To teach basic engineering subjects. To make people understand engineering ethics, the responsibilities of the engineer and the importance of teamwork with other engineering disciplines.
Course Content: Introduction of the rules and regulations of the University and the department. Introduction to the mechanical engineering profession, history of mechanical engineering. Main application areas of mechanical engineering. Unit systems and conversions. Engineering ethics. Communication in engineering. Design. Introduction to materials, mechanics, heat information and machine elements. Awareness about engineering solutions to global problems. Technical standards. Approaches to problem solving, calculation tools. Maintenance and quality concepts.
