Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: To teach the fundamentals of fluid mechanics to engineering students and to provide them with comprehensive knowledge on the applications in this field that they will encounter in their professional life.
Course Content: In this course, students will be given information on fluid mechanics applications that they may encounter frequently in their future professional life. Hydrostatic pressure applications, flows with negligible friction, conservation equations, Bernoulli and energy equations, flows with friction and measurement methods in fluid mechanics will be explained. Students who successfully complete this course will have a solid foundation in fluid mechanics and will have the necessary infrastructure to work on this subject in their professional life.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Knows the definition and basic concepts of Fluid Mechanics.
2) Analyses hydrostatic pressure applications in fluids at rest.
3) Knows about flows with negligible friction and conservation equations.
4) Analyses flows with friction and calculates the pressure loss due to friction.
5) Learns how to obtain Navier Stokes equations and their usage areas.
6) Analyses the energy transformations undergone by the flow in a flow field.
7) Knows which numerical methods are used to analyse flow problems in practice.
8) Knows the application areas of fluid mechanics.
