Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: Historical buildings, which are a part of our cultural heritage, carry clues about the building technology and life culture of past cultures. The first step to transfer these values ​​to future generations is documentation. As a result of this course, it is aimed for students to have knowledge about documenting a historical building and how to preserve it, and to make an effort to understand building technologies, materials and styles that are not used today.
Course Content: The historical background of surveying will be examined and why such a documentation study is needed will be discussed. In the practical part of the course, how to take a survey and how to prepare a survey project will be applied in a sample study. Restoration theories and application methods will be discussed. Protection examples from our country and the world will be included. The legal dimension of conservation and the project design process will be introduced.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To have knowledge and understanding of national/international conceptual and legal issues regarding conservation theory.

3) Gain the ability to survey an existing structure
4) To be able to conduct research on the documentation of existing structures and present them in writing and verbally.
