Course Objectives: | The aim of this course is to inform students about different fields of law, to introduce them to different judicial systems and to familiarize students with language properties in various legal texts. Students are expected to understand basic concepts in the source and the target language used in the field of law and to translate different legal texts like agreements and legislations. |
Course Content: | This course consists of the basic concepts and linguistic structure of texts on law and international relations, translation methods and principles as well as the translation of various texts such as contracts, power of attorney, resolutions and recommendations. |
The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Analyze texts on international affairs and law linguistically and extra-linguistically 2) Analyze texts on international affairs and law in respect of terminology and concepts 3) Conduct linguistic and theoretical studies for purposes of translating texts on law and international affairs 4) Obtain awareness on language uses peculiar to the fields of law and international affairs 5) Translate texts on law and international affairs from English into Turkish and from Turkish into English as acceptable and functional texts |
