Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: This course is intended to develop students' skills required for the translation of European Union texts within a theoretical framework. Within the scope of the course, basic concepts used in European Union studies will be introduced and various European Union texts, such as regulations, directives and decisions, will be translated.
Course Content: This course consists of texts on the relations with the EU; the nature and characteristics of the acquis communautaire, sources of difficulty in the translation of EU texts and EU terminology.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Analyse texts linguistically and extra-linguistically
2) Improve translation skills
3) Identify the main functions of the institutions of the EU
4) Apply the theoretical information of applied linguistics through the translation of acquis communautaire
5) Develop skills in order to translate texts on EU texts from English into Turkish and from Turkish into English as acceptable and functional texts
