Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: To inform students about General Pharmacology
Course Content: This course consists of basic pharmacology, introduction to pharmacology, absorption of drugs, distribution of drugs, drug metabolism and excretion, mechanism of action and side effects of drugs and anaphylaxis.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To understand the basic concepts of pharmacology; fields and branches of study; principles and objectives of correct drug therapy; pharmaceutical forms and routes of drug administration and to be able to apply this knowledge effectively in clinical activities.
2) To be able to learn the effect of drugs on basic physiological events and structures in the body and the mechanism of this effect.
3) To be able to comprehend the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of drugs in the body and the factors affecting them.
4) To be able to learn the effects and side effects of drugs used in treatment.
5) To learn which drugs are used in the treatment of system diseases and to be able to apply the dosage of these drugs for effective treatment.
6) To be able to comprehend antibiotics and other chemotherapeutics.
7) To be able to comprehend drug abuse and addiction.
8) To be informed about the use of drugs for prophylaxis and diagnostic purposes and to acquire the ability to apply them effectively.
9) To be able to comprehend the development of new drugs and current issues of pharmacology.
10) Acquire skills to interpret prescription and prospectus information.
