Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: This course aims to improve simultaneous interpreting skills in various conference settings. Students will be acquainted with the types of interpreting necessary for discussions between heads of state, prime ministers, ministers, business meetings, trade negotiations, court cases, working lunches, and field trips.
Course Content: This course consists of conference interpreting skills and exercises, stress management and simultaneous interpreting strategies in the face of non-native speakers of English.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Obtain simultaneous and on-sight interpreting skills
2) Gain awareness of the ethics and working conditions of conference interpreting
3) Apply strategies to cope with the difficulties encountered in conference interpreting
4) Obtain the skills to cope with stress and to cooperate with their colleagues in the booth
5) Enhance oral communication skills
