Course Objectives: |
The purpose of this course is to inform pharmacy students on the basic concepts in pharmaceutical microbiology, the general characteristics of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites), the main diseases they cause and their treatments, the use of beneficial microorganisms in industrial areas, antimicrobial substances (especially antibiotics, antiseptics and disinfectants) and their effects; sterilization, antisepsis, disinfection methods evaluating current research about these topics. |
Course Content: |
The aim of the course is to inform and evaluate current research about the basic concepts in pharmaceutical microbiology, the general characteristics of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites), the main infectious diseases and their treatments, the use of beneficial microorganisms in the industry, antimicrobial agents (especially antibiotics, antiseptics and disinfectants) and their mechanisms of action, sterilization, disinfection, the role and applications of microbiology in the pharmaceutical industry. |
