Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The purpose of this course is to acquire professional skills of pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory by showing the basic working principles and uses of the tools and devices in the microbiology laboratory, as well as the microbiological control of pharmaceutical products, air and water, diagnosis of isolated microorganisms, antibiotic susceptibility and antibiotic combination assays.
Course Content: The aim of the course is to provide theoretical and practical information on the basic working principles and uses of tools and devices used in the microbiology laboratory, examination of the morphological characteristics of microorganisms, culture and diagnosis methods, antibiotic susceptibility assays, microbiological examination of pharmaceutical products, and to increase professional skills in this regard.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Ability to access scientific knowledge in the field of Molecular biology and genetics, have the knowledge to follow, evaluate, and apply current developments and studies
2) Ability to fulfill the responsibility of producing scientific knowledge specific to the field of Molecular biology and genetics / be able to conduct descriptive research
3) The ability to know the general characteristics of microorganisms should be able to evaluate the antibiotics to be selected for the diagnosis and treatment of the diseases they cause should have advanced knowledge about the microbiological testing methods in the pharmaceutical industry.
4) Ability to critically evaluate the advanced knowledge and skills acquired in the field of molecular biology.
5) Ability to use information technologies related to molecular biology and research field
6) Ability to know the importance of ethical principles and ethical committees in the pharmacy profession for the individual and society in education, practice and research.
7) Ability to participate in the development and production of pharmaceuticals and their quality control and quality assurance.
8) To know about public health, environmental protection, and occupational safety.
9) Ability to take part in Molecular biology and genetics services in the hospital at every stage.
10) Ability to gain administrative and technical equipment in every field that Molecular biology and genetics profession is responsible for by law, and should be able to produce solutions to problems in line with scientific data/evidence.
11) Ability to follow and evaluate national and international developments in the field of Molecular biology and genetics profession.
