Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to know basic first aid applications in the face of emergent situations and be able to apply them correctly and effectively.
Course Content:

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To train pharmacists who are able to make algorithmic, fast and accurate decisions on the scene of accident, who successfully apply basic first aid practices that can be applied in a time period that can contribute to the survival of patients, based on evidence, accompanied by current guidelines and treatment recommendations.
2) Define first aid and know the differences between basic and advanced first aid applications
3) Can apply disaster triage for children and adults in cases of multiple injuries such as disasters (START, Jump Start).
4) Can perform adult and pediatric basic life support practices and should know what should be considered for first aid in approaching a suspected COVID-19 patient.
5) Can use automatic and semi-automatic automatic external defibrillator and define the precautions to be taken while using it
6) Be able to apply basic first aid instructions against different types of poisonings.
7) Can apply basic first aid procedures for traumatic injuries.
8) Should know the basic first aid steps to be applied in case of different types of burns
9) Should be able to apply basic first aid practices for both adult and pediatric patient populations in the management of drowning or suffocation situations.
10) Must be able to follow the basic first aid steps to be applied in case of insect stings and animal bites
11) Should know the working principles of emergency health services.
12) Should know the basic first aid approaches that should be applied in serious medical conditions such as stroke, heart attack, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and in medical situations with impaired consciousness.
13) Should know the basic first aid practices to be followed in case of fire, electric shock and traffic accident.
