Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The main goal is for the student at the beginning of the Industrial Design Engineering education to have a general idea and knowledge about building materials, which are one of the tools they will use to realize their designs.
Course Content: 11 different building materials, including wood, metal and plastic, are introduced as the material family used in industrial products, and the physical, chemical and technical properties of each material family are analyzed and discussed in detail.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To have ideas and knowledge about building materials
2) To be able to define, interpret and evaluate the properties of building materials
3) To be able to make the right material selection, to learn the production processes related to the selected material
4) Understanding the principles and standards related to the production, use and applications, environmental impacts and reusability of building materials in the context of technological developments.
5) Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of material types
6) To enable the student to comprehend the importance of material knowledge and accumulation in the success of the realisation of the decisions in the design process.
