Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: Giving theoretical and practical knowledge about the product design process in the field of industrial design and transferring and learning the variables and limitations of product design processes.
Course Content: Design, Design Process, Defining Problems, Developing Solutions, Product, Market, Production, Materials and Production Methods and design relationship, Short history of Industrial Design, prominent products in this process. Cultural Context of Product Design, User Relations, Current and global problems of design, Current design methods, Sample Design Process and Design Scenarios to teach the professional life of industrial product designer.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Recognises the important developments in the history of Industrial Design Profession.
2) Develops research and observation skills, learns the design process.
3) To be aware of the current issues of the profession in the field of study, to learn the materials and production methods, user relations and culture of the profession.

2) Design, production and creativity in the historical process. Skilful manufacturers, anonymous designers, inventions and creative innovations. -
3) Traditions and creative experiments, the idea of creativity in the past. The process of popularisation of creativity -
4) Industrial Revolution and its aftermath. The effects of the Industrial Revolution on the Ottoman Empire. -
5) Design History Time Table -
6) Leading events and phenomena of industrial design in England in XVIII century -
7) Introduction of Industry Concept to Industry Kristal Palas -
8) Paris Exhibition after Kristal Palas -

10) Effects of technological developments on design -
11) Design alternatives and development process, creation of design details, materials and production technologies to be used -
