Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: To provide an understanding of the principles and practices involved in the design of medical devices and equipment. It aims to develop innovative and functional solutions that meet the specific needs of patients and healthcare professionals. It is aimed to develop knowledge and skills in areas such as human factors, ergonomics, material selection, prototyping and regulatory considerations, and to apply a user-centred approach to design and create safe medical products.
Course Content: Medical device design process, accessibility, standards, comfort and usability, anatomical suitability and shape and size formats, biomaterial selection; course case studies, surgical implantation procedure instrumentation, preclinical testing for safety and efficiency, orthopaedic devices, soft tissue implants, artificial organs, digital health solutions, medical technologies.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To be able to design general medical equipment/devices with optimum quality and safety by using the knowledge learnt in this course.
