Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: Having knowledge about hardware and software for computer aided manufacturing (CAM-BDİ) and importance for manufacturing processes. Modeling by using CAM programs and choosing tool and operation parameters. Generating tool path algorithms and obtaining part programs for numerical controlled machine tools by using post processor. Having ability of using CAM programs.
Course Content: Hardware and software for Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and their properties, computer aided techniques and CAM, numerical controlled machine tools, manufacturing systems and CAM, modeling with CAD/CAM programs, selection of process parameters and tooling, tool paths and tool paths generation algorithms, machining strategies, post processor and graphical simulation of machining.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To gain ability of choosing software and hardware for CAM.
2) Students shall gain ability of modeling by using CAM programs and choosing tool and operation parameters.
3) Students shall gain ability of using SolidCAM program and obtaining part programs for numerical controlled machine tools.
4) Create toolpaths for 2D and 3D machine parts and learn how to obtain CNC codes
5) Learn basic definitions of CNC programming and computer aided manufacturing
