Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: By touching on the properties of the wooden material used as a building material, having knowledge and ideas about the material, learning the positive and negative properties of the material, conservation methods and traditional and contemporary building techniques, the aim is to acquire the ability to choose the right material, intervene and repair in wooden building design and restoration.
Course Content: Course Content: Lesson; Examining the general structure of wood as an organic material, its chemical structure, physical and mechanical properties, negative aspects of wood, plant and animal pests that destroy wood, water and moisture relationship, introducing the wood species used in buildings with examples according to their macroscopic properties, wood masonry and wood frame construction. It includes basic topics such as techniques, traditional woodworking techniques, connection-joining-joining techniques of building elements, metal elements used in connections, techniques such as wooden material restoration.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Ability to define, interpret and evaluate the properties of wooden building materials
2) Having an idea and knowledge about wooden building materials, getting to know wooden materials
3) Being able to choose the right wooden material and learning the production processes related to the selected material.
5) Recognizing traditional and contemporary wooden construction techniques.
6) Have information about the production, use and application of wooden structural elements.
7) Knowing the protective chemicals and application methods applied to wooden materials before construction.
