Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: To evaluate physiotherapy practices within the scope of geriatric rehabilitation.
Course Content: It covers neurological and orthopedic problems and cognitive changes occurring with aging; physiotherapy and rehabilitation practices in cases of systemic diseases and/or disabilities, developing decision-making and evaluation skills for geriatric rehabilitation programs, and assessing quality of life.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Discuss the basic principles of geriatric rehabilitation and healthy aging
2) Identify musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, neurological, psychosocial, and genitourinary changes observed in the elderly.
3) Identify balance and fall issues, gait disorders, assessment methods, and physiotherapy programs
4) Explain the treatment applied for genitourinary changes and physiotherapy methods for incontinence
5) Define exercise applications, programs, and home exercise plans for the elderly
6) Provide ergonomic recommendations suitable for elderly individuals
7) Acquire the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with other healthcare professionals to provide care for the elderly with various geriatric diseases.
8) Apply appropriate physiotherapy approaches for geriatric patients.
