Course Objectives: | It is aimed to show the application of the basic equations of fluid mechanics and dimensional analysis to hydraulic machines, to give the general theory and design criteria of turbines and pumps; to introduce the basic construction features, characteristic curves, operating characteristics and selection criteria. |
Course Content: | Within the scope of this course, students learn the machines that exchange energy with fluids and their classification. Action and reaction turbines are analysed according to the fundamentals of fluid mechanics. The issue of cavitation in turbines is examined and the issue of similarity in turbomachinery is discussed. The classification and structures of pumps, which are machines that transfer energy to fluids, are examined. The structure of centrifugal pumps is examined and calculated. After examining the cavitation phenomenon in pumps, finally the characteristic curves for the operating characteristics of the pumps are examined. |
The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To be able to apply the basic equations and principles of fluid mechanics to hydraulic machines. 2) To be able to analyse energy transfer and energy efficiency in hydraulic machines. 3) To be able to explain the structure, operating principles, design and operating characteristics of pumps and turbines. 4) To be able to find and use dimensionless numbers for turbomachinery. 5) To be able to design and analyse hydraulic machines. 6) They have the ability to select the appropriate pump or turbine for certain operating conditions. |
