Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: Provide knowledge of the development of the concept of engineering economics, its purpose, basic functions, time value of money in economics and business, and analysis of cash flows of investment projects; to explain the methods to be used in the comparison of different investment projects and to ensure that applications are made on these issues.
Course Content: The basic concepts of investment and investment projects / Investment opportunities and types of fixed investments / Cash flows and interest calculations / Present worth analysis / Annual cash flow analysis / Rate of return analysis / Analysis of investment differences and permanent investment increases / Depreciation methods and applications / Income, corporation tax and value-added-tax, inflation and deflation / Payment of tax and engineering economy analysis at cases due to inflation / Revaluation and examine the effects of revaluation to engineering economy / Income, corporation tax and value-added-tax, inflation

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Gains the information about the basic structure and elements of an investment project
2) Gains the information of investment types, time value of money and interest, interest formulas and knowledge of types of interest.
3) Adapts the economical terms in real life problems.
4) Makes investment selection by using investment cost.
5) Makes comparison of investments by using internal rate of return.
