Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of the Oral Pathology course is to ensure that students know the clinical symptoms, findings, radiological, macroscopic and microscopic features, prognosis and treatments of diseases and tumors in the oral mucosa, oral cavity and jaw bones, and to enable students to recognize these diseases in the clinic and direct patients to the correct treatment.
Course Content: Oral Pathology course includes information about inflammatory diseases of teeth and surrounding tissues, various diseases and lesions of the oral mucosa, precancerous lesions, benign and malignant tumors, jaw bone diseases and tumors, cysts in bones and soft tissues, odontogenic tumors, salivary gland diseases and tumors.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Ability to access and evaluate current scientific knowledge in the field of Oral Pathology.
2) To have knowledge about various diseases seen in the head and neck region.
3) To be able to recognize tumors and precancerous lesions seen in the head and neck region and oral mucosa.
4) To be able to recognize cystic formations seen in the head and neck area and jaw bones.
5) To be able to recognize odontogenic tumors in jaw bones and soft tissue.
6) To be able to use knowledge about pathological formations in the head-neck region and jaw bones in the clinic.
7) To be able to make decisions regarding the treatment of pathological formations seen in the mouth.
8) To be able to guide the patient for the diagnosis and treatment of pathological formations seen in the mouth.
