European Credit Transfer System (AKTS), is a credit system based on the work/labor load. Under this system focusing on the student’s learning, student’s work/study load throughout full-time in one academic year as 36/40 weeks and 1 credit as study in the range of 25-30 hours.
The meaning of student learning being at the focus/center of the system is that learning outputs/benefits, specified for the program registered by the student depending on the level of learning are achieved and realized. In other words, realization/achievement that learning outputs/benefits, specified for any program identify and describe what has been learnt what could then be made by any student.
Istanbul Health & Technology University, in reference to European Higher Education Area – Qualifications Framework (QF-EHEA) as well as Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ), is an institution of higher education providing to and equipping its students those qualifications specified in accordance with the level of education/learning process, under such training/education programs structured by taking into account opinion of its stakeholders. In this context, the credits of the courses in the University's programmes are calculated on the basis of 45 hours of the maximum weekly time that students can devote to the education and training activities required by the program in which they are enrolled and a total of 16 weeks with 14 weeks of the time allocated for a semester and 2 weeks of final exams, and 1 ECTS credit corresponding to 25 hours of student work/study load.
At Istanbul Health & Technology University, normal education term at associate level is two years and total number of credits depending on the student’s work/study load is 120 AKTS. Whereas at undergraduate level, normal education term is four years and total number of credits depending on the student’s work/study load is 240 AKTS. While at graduate level, being of different education/learning levels, total number of credits depending on the student’s work/study load is 90 AKTS for graduate programs without thesis is 90 AKTS, 120 AKTS for graduate programs with thesis, in doctorate programs in the event of admission of the student with graduate degree including thesis is accepted as 240 AKTS or when student is accepted solely under his/her graduate degree, 300 AKTS.
In assessing realization/achievement of the outputs/benefits set forth and specified under all programs of Istanbul Health & Technology University, course evaluation inquiry is made at the end of each and every semester, designed and made in order to measure the level /extent of realization of the outputs/benefits of all courses with respect to a program by each and every student, whereas student institutional satisfaction inquiry is conducted at the end of every semester. Results of such inquiries/questionnaires are assessed and evaluated by the rector’s office as well as administrators of the relevant academic units, with priority given to the quality commission, and thereafter process improvement activities are realized and carried out.
