General Information

According to the World Federation of Occupational Therapy (WFOT), Occupational Therapy is a person-centered healthcare profession that promotes health and well-being through meaningful and purposeful activities. This field of health care, which is called Occupational Therapy in our country, is called "Occupational Therapy", "Ergotherapy" or "Ergothérapie" abroad.

The focus of occupational therapy is to ensure participation in activities. Occupational therapists achieve this goal by working with individuals and communities, engaging in activities they want, need, and expected of them, or adapting the activity or environment. They receive a very broad education in the medical, social, behavioral, psychological, psychosocial, and vocational fields, in which they gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and behavior to work in cooperation with individuals, groups, or communities. They believe that the individual's abilities, characteristics of the activities, context, and environment can support or limit participation. For this reason, occupational therapy practices focus on making changes in the person, environment, activity, or combination of these in order to increase participation.

The aim of the undergraduate program is to train occupational therapists who can synthesize the theoretical and applied knowledge they have acquired, plan and implement person-centered occupational therapy assessments and interventions, and increase the independence and quality of life of individuals and ensure their social participation. The Curriculum of the Department of Occupational Therapy provides training in a way that students can apply the theoretical and practical knowledge they have acquired over four years in the fields of health, education, and business.

When you graduate, you can work in hospitals, special education and rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, universities, private clinics, schools, community mental health centers, daycare centers, factories, public health, and occupational health centers, guidance research centers (RAM), and many more. You will be able to work to serve the age group. If you wish, you can continue with the Occupational Therapy graduate programs and progress towards becoming an academician.
