Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: To teach the establishment of the Republic of Turkey as a secular and unitary nation-state after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the history of the modernization experience shaped on the basis of this foundation; the young generations the Kemalist Thought, which corresponds to the expression and meaning of the Turkish Revolution, the nation-state, modernity and secularism,
which was carried out under the leadership of the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and to make them realize its value.
It is aimed that the student gains the ability to classify, describe, explain and analyze contemporary problems at the level of society, individual and country by adapting this thought to national principles within the framework of the founding basic principles of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Revolution, within the norms of reason and science, modernity.
Course Content: This course consists of, parallel to the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, evaluating Turkish society at the level of contemporary nation-states, and the experience of the Turkish Revolution, which has sui generis characteristics within the value system that defines the nation-state (In a chronological line: Classical and post-classical Turkish imperial past, late 18th century and 19th century). century, 1908 Revolution, 1914-1918, 1918-1922 and 1923-60 sections) are discussed within the framework of the state and social restructuring of the modern Turkish nation-state, and the stages of the change of the Turkish political and social system as a whole as well as the analysis of the internal and external political events of the phenomenon of political, social, economic and cultural change (transformation), which has been shaped and implemented at various levels and with its various dimensions, the analysis of the thoughts and activities of all its actors, These historical processes (the processes of the
establishment of the modern Turkish Republic state) Evaluating it as a reference and comparison area in solving the problems of society and politics, comprehending the importance of thinking about the historical dynamism of Turkish social and political change in this context.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) The analysis of historical information around a subject/problem and time period, event-phenomenon, its actors, the writing and narrative forms of this historical event-phenomenon
2) To be able to learn how to read and interpret an article that deals with and scrutinizes a historical problem.
3) To be able to research a historical problem by associating it with today, by establishing its relation with current problems (hypothetical).
4) To be able to learn to prepare a presentation on a historical problem.
5) To gain the ability to critically evaluate different perspectives and views.
6) To be able to gain the ability to analyze and answer the questions that arise about her own point of view and the thoughts and opinions she put forward, by thinking on historical grounds.
7) To be able to gain the knowledge and experience of expressing and transferring one's thoughts on a problem rationally and accurately, and to learn how to abstract.
