Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of the course is to teach the basic principles of medical biology and genetics and to understand their areas of use.
Course Content: This course includes introduction to medical biology, common characteristics of living things, cell membrane, substance passage through the cell membrane, cellular organization, cell division, cell aging and apoptosis, cancer, history of genetics, structure of genetic material, genome organization, general principles of heredity, mutation, polymorphism and repair. includes cancer genetics and immunogenetics.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To understand the basic structure and functions of cellular organization.
2) Ability to define cell types, organelles, genetic material, and provide information about the cytoskeleton.
3) Ability to describe the structure of genetic material and explain the basic processes of replication-transcription-translation mechanisms.
4) Ability to define cell cycle stages and checkpoints.
5) Ability to explain mitosis and meiosis differences and genetic anomalies.
6) Ability to explain gene expression and epigenetic mechanisms.
7) Ability to explain the concepts of mutation and polymorphism with examples.
8) Ability to define the basic principles of heredity.
9) Be able to discuss DNA repair mechanisms.
10) Being able to make definitions about cancer biology and genetics and immunogenetics.
