Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: At the end of this course, it is aimed for the student to understand the definitions of physical activity and exercise and the benefits of regular exercise, to learn the types of exercise, components of exercise, exercise recommendations, and the role of exercise in the prevention and treatment of obesity and other chronic diseases.
Course Content: In this course, the importance of lifelong sports and physical activity, types of exercise, healthy living information, social effects of exercise, psychological and physiological effects of exercise are discussed. This course defines the basic concepts related to exercise and physical activity, exercise types and prescriptions, the relationship between exercise and disease, the importance of exercise and nutrition for the brain, exercise physiology, the relationship between exercise and macronutrients, the relationship between exercise and micronutrients, exercise and fluid- It includes topics such as electrolyte balance, nutrition before/during and after exercise, exercise and nutrition recommendations in different groups, exercise and nutrition recommendations in different groups, determination of physical activity and methods of reducing sedentary life, and exercise-supporting practices.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Ability to explain definitions related to physical activity.
2) Being able to understand the relationship between exercise, health and nutrition.
3) Ability to learn the importance of exercise in the prevention and treatment of obesity and other chronic diseases.
4) Ability to research and evaluate intervention studies on increasing physical activity in our country and other countries.
5) Being able to learn the exercise recommendations in the Türkiye Physical Activity guide and explaining exercise types and components.
