Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The main purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to increase their compliance with treatment by providing social and emotional support to individuals with health problems and their families.
Course Content: This lesson; Introduction, course introduction, psychosocial care, psychosocial nursing in patient care, Psychosocial response to the disease, Key issues in the psychosocial response to the disease (change in self-esteem, change in body image, powerlessness, guilt, hopelessness, anxiety, loneliness, loss), Coping with reactions to the disease Psychosocial skills, Nurses' reactions to difficult patient behaviors, Transcultural approach in psychosocial nursing care, Problems encountered in nursing care and nursing approach (Anxiety, anger, pain, feeding problems, etc.), Problems encountered in nursing care and nursing approach (Surgical and internal), Nursing approach to the patient experiencing moral distress, Psychosocial management of special situations (untreatable diseases, infectious diseases, end-of-life period, etc.), Difficulties experienced by the patient family and nursing approach to the patient family, Stigma in physical and mental diseases, Crisis and crisis management, course evaluation; Includes topics.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Describes psychosocial reactions to the disease.
2) Explains nursing approaches to psychosocial problems frequently encountered in nursing care.
3) Plans psychosocial nursing care for the individual with the disease.
