Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives:  This course aims to make students acquire the basic skills of sight interpreting so that they will get ready for simultaneous and
consecutive interpreting. The course aims to enhance students' skills in summarizing, paraphrasing and translating written texts
orally.
Course Content: This course consists of basic sight translation skills, interpreting-oriented exercises such as paraphrasing and chunking as well as
good speaking skills.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Realize the importance of terminological and conceptual issues of texts to be translated
2) Acquire the basic skills for sight interpreting such as oral paraphrasing including expanding and condensing, parsing and chunking along with memory exercises
3) Acquire basic skills in relation to effective reading and analyzing source text structure
4) Apply basic skills in relation to effective reading and analyzing source text structure during interpretation
5) Use terminology during interpretation of a variety of texts on different fields both in English and Turkish
6) Develop an awareness and skills in order to find solutions for the problems confronted while interpreting
