Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to provide students with knowledge in the basic concepts of toxicology; dose-response relationships; factors affecting toxicity; toxicokinetic properties of xenobiotics; mechanism of toxic effects; chemical mutagenesis; chemical carcinogenesis; developmental toxicity and risk assessment in toxicology.
Course Content: Basic principles of toxicology; toxicokinetic;. toxicological risk assessment; mechanisms of toxicity; chemical carcinogenesis and mutagenesis; developmental and reproductive toxicity.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To be able to explain the basic principles of toxicology.
2) To be able to interpret the dose-effect relationship of xenobiotics.
3) Should be able to know the characteristics of exposure to xenobiotics.
4) Should be able to know the principles of toxicity studies.
5) To be able to perform toxicological risk assessment of chemicals and safety assessment of consumer products.
6) To be able to comment on the biotransformations of xenobiotics.
7) To be able to comment on distribution and excretion of xenobiotics.
8) To be able to understand the factors which affects and modulate toxicity.
9) To be able to understand the mechanisms of toxicity.
10) To be able to know the mechanisms of cellular damage.
11) Should be knowledgeable enough to evaluate the mechanisms of action of chemical carcinogens.
12) Should have sufficient knowledge about the mechanisms that induce chemical mutagenesis.
13) Should have sufficient knowledge about developmental and reproductive toxicity.
