Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to provide students with knowledge and skills about the roles and responsibilities of the operating room nurse, patient care management in the operating room, preparation of the operating room environment, current practices in the operating room, patient and employee safety, ethical principles and legal processes in line with AORN standards and current guidelines.
Course Content: Introduction to operating room nursing, standards in operating room nursing, safety precautions in the operating room, nursing care in the operating room, asepsis, sterilization, basic surgical instruments, documentation.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To be able to explain the importance of the professional role of the operating room nurse.
2) To be able to diagnose patients' problems by analyzing data.
3) To be able to discuss nursing interventions according to anesthesia types and types of surgery.
4) To be able to question patient and employee safety in the operating room.
5) To be able to explain legal and ethical issues in the operating room environment.
6) To be able to evaluate the effect of medical treatment and nursing care in the operating room in line with observations.
7) To be able to know the characteristics and principles of the operating room environment.
8) To be able to recognize and use operating room equipment.
9) To have the ability to cooperate with the team.
10) To be able to determine evidence-based individual care by analyzing data.
