Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives:  This course is designed to cover theoretical and practical aspects of technological tools used in translation and aims to introduce
computer-based programs. Computer Assisted Tools (CATs) are practiced in a laboratory setting and students' competence is
enhanced regarding translation technology.
Course Content:  This course consists of software related to translation such as Computer Aided Translation (CAT) tools; Terminology Management
Systems (TMS); local and Internet based terminological databases (termbases); project management packages and quality
assurance systems.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Use CAT tools and other translation related tools, such as terminology management systems or OCR (optical character recognition) programs effectively
2) Compare the technological ways of translation with traditional translation procedures
3) Analyze a variety of texts linguistically and extralinguistically
4) Analyze terminological and conceptual issues of texts to be translated
5) Develop skills to use CAT tools both in the translation and also in the research process
