Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of the course is to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to provide nursing care appropriate to the aging process and the biological, psychological and social changes that occur in this process.
Course Content: Old age and the aging process, old age and health problems, improving physiological and psychosocial health in elderly care, drug management principles in the elderly, the importance and effects of drug administration, health and social services offered to elderly individuals in our country, clinical and home care for the elderly.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Knows and interprets the basic concepts related to the elderly and old age and the health indicators of the elderly in our country.
2) Explains the duties and responsibilities of nurses in institutions and organizations that care for the elderly.
3) It uses comprehensive geriatric assessment and clinical decision-making principles in determining the physiological and psychological status of the elderly individual.
4) Knows the institutions/organizations that provide care for the elderly and the health and social services offered, and cooperates for the benefit of the elderly person.
5) Develops sensitivity to the individual, spiritual, social and cultural differences of elderly individuals.
