Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of the Oral Pathology course is to ensure that students know the clinical symptoms, findings, radiological, macroscopic and microscopic features, prognosis and treatments of diseases and tumors in the oral mucosa, oral cavity and jaw bones, and to enable students to recognize these diseases in the clinic and direct patients to the correct treatment.
Course Content: Course topics:
1. Pigmented lesions of the oral mucosa, malignant melanoma,
2. White lesions of the oral mucosa,
3. Benign epithelial tumors of the oral mucosa,
4. Precancerous lesions of the oral mucosa,
5. Carcinomas of the oral mucosa,
6. Reactive lesions and tumors of unknown origin of the oral mucosa,
7. Dysplasias and benign diseases of the jaw bones
8. Primary benign and malignant tumors and metastatic tumors of the jaw bones,
9. Jaw bones and soft tissue cysts,
10. Central and peripheral odontogenic tumors,
11. Diseases and tumors of the salivary glands.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) 1. Ability to access and evaluate current scientific knowledge in the field of Oral Pathology, 2. Being able to recognize various lesions seen in the head and neck region, 3. Having knowledge about various diseases seen in the head and neck region, 4. Being able to recognize tumors and precancerous lesions seen in the head and neck region, 5. To be able to recognize various diseases, benign and malignant tumors seen in the jaw bones, 6. Being able to recognize cysts seen in the head and neck area and jaw bones, 7. Ability to recognize odontogenic tumors in jaw bones and soft tissues, 8. Ability to use knowledge about pathological formations in the head-neck region and jaw bones in the clinic, 9. Being able to make decisions regarding the treatment of pathological formations seen in the mouth, 10. Ability to guide the patient for the diagnosis and treatment of pathological formations seen in the mouth.
