Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: This course aims to inform students about different linguistic properties of social sciences texts and their influence on translation
and terminology (cultural differences, content, word selection, textual function, syntactic structures, point of view etc.). The aim of
this course is to introduce students to the language used in various fields of social sciences and terminology.
Course Content: This course consists of Turkish to English and English to Turkish translation in various sub-fields of social sciences such as
sociology, psychology, history and culture as well as field-specific terminology studies.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Acquire the skills to analyze the distinctive qualities of social sciences texts
2) Acquire the skills to employ corresponding translation methods
3) Develop skills by translating a great variety of texts on social sciences
4) Expand their knowledge of terminology related to the fields of social sciences (such as history, socilology, psychology etc.)
5) Develop skills to read, write and translate texts on social sciences in Turkish and English
