Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: This course aims to provide basic information about nursing care in different oncological conditions. tudents will be taught the mechanism of cancer, which is the basis of oncology nursing, signs and symptoms of cancer, cancer treatment methods and side effects, the most common cancers, problems experienced by the individual with cancer and their family due to diagnosis and treatment

Course Content: Definition of Cancer, History, Epidemiology in Our Country and in the World, Carcinogenesis and CancerClassification, According to Systems (Skin, Head and Neck, Breast, GIS, Urogenital Organs, Lung, Lymph, CI) Cancer Examination, Predisposing Factors, Symptoms, Findings, Diagnostic Methods, Treatment Methods in Cancer, Care and Rehabilitation, Symptom Control and Care in Cancer Patients, Preventive Health Services in Cancer, New
Developments and Responsibilities of Nurses, Oncological Emergencies, Self-Care and Quality of Life in Cancer Patients Development, Protection of Caregivers of Cancer Patients (Nurses, Patients and Relatives),
It includes topics such as Care Problems of Cancer Patients and Their Relatives and analysis of monitored clinic and outpatient clinic case.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) The historical development of oncology nursing, its roles and responsibilities, standards and knows the work areas.
2) Explains the biology of cancer and affecting factors.
3) Knows cancer prevention and early diagnosis methods.
4) Explain the methods used in the treatment of cancer.
5) Defines the problems and needs of the patient and his family during the process.
