Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives:  This course aims to develop awareness on the relationship between culture and translation. In this course, students are
introduced to basic concepts in translation. It emphasizes different types of translation and students are shown translation
methods, different text types and dictionary usage.
Course Content:  This course consists of  text analysis, discourse, register, context, skopos and step by step translation practice on informative and
operative texts.

1) Read a variety of different text types
2) Carry out textual analysis within the framework of translation studies
3) Gain competence in translation-oriented text analysis
4) Determine different functions of language in different texts
