Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: Internal combustion chambers will be investigated through thermodynamic laws. Structures of several engines will be covered. Energy equivalent of fuels will be covered. Ideal and real Otto and Diesel cycles will be investigated deeply. Efficiency of engines will studied.

1) • Students will be able to identify various engine types. • They will understand ideal Otto and Diesel cycles. • They will gain knowledge about the thermodynamics of engines. • They will grasp the working principles of engines. • They will be able to analyze real Otto and Diesel cycles. • They will be able to perform power, torque, and fuel consumption calculations. • They will acquire knowledge about fuels and combustion chemistry. • They will understand exhaust systems and emissions. • They will comprehend air intake systems. • They will examine mixture formation in spark ignition engines. • They will understand mixture formation in diesel engines. • They will evaluate fuel economy in road vehicles.
