Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The purpose of this course is to inform pharmacy students about probiotic microorganisms, their general characteristics, mechanism of action, their place in the treatment of diseases, probiotic foods, prebiotic and synbiotic products, and production and storage conditions and to evaluate current studies about this topic.
Course Content: 1. The concept and history of probiotics
2. The human microbiota
3. Factors affecting gut microbiota
4. Probiotic microorganisms
5. Criteria used in the selection of probiotic microorganisms
6. Prebiotics and synbiotics
7. Mechanisms of action of probiotics
