Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to provide comprehensive information on analyzing the clinical features of hearing and balance system diseases as a whole in the audiological battery and interpreting the results when encountering people with different pathologies.
Course Content: 1. Introduction of the course: Informing about the aim, content and functioning
2. Current approaches in the evaluation of audiological and vestibular pathology
3. Case presentation in pathologies involving external and middle ear structures - I
4. Case presentation in pathologies involving external and middle ear structures - II
5. Case presentation in pathologies affecting the inner ear and central system - I
6. Case presentation in pathologies affecting the inner ear and central system - II
7. Evaluation of peripheral vestibular pathologies and case report
8. Evaluation of central vestibular pathologies and case report
9. Bilateral vestibular disorders and case report

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To be able to define the basic features of ear pathologies
2) To be able to define peripheral / central vestibular diseases and their mechanisms
3) To be able to comprehend multidisciplinary working conditions and directions in clinics
4) Define the etiology of different diseases and select the appropriate test battery
5) To be able to apply disease-specific clinical management steps

1) Ability to integrate the necessary scientific knowledge and methods in order to make the necessary audiological/vestibular evaluations for patients with hearing and/or vestibular complaints. 3
2) To be able to interpret the basic information of the science of audiology, within the scope of general medical knowledge, to determine and apply the necessary approaches for the patient. 3
3) Ability to apply audiological test methods suitable for the disease. 3
4) To be able to plan the audiology program with the theoretical and applied knowledge learned. 3
5) Ability to work collaboratively with members of the healthcare team and other disciplines. 3
6) To be able to measure the effectiveness, continuity and quality of services related to audiology, as well as to be able to conduct training and practice studies related to the science of audiology. 3
7) To be able to make noise measurements in noisy environments and to be able to take part in the implementation of noise control programs in order to regulate the environmental modifications to be made to reduce the noise level, to determine the individual protectors and to implement them. 3
8) To be able to work on developing, placing and coordinating the necessary hearing screening programs in work, school and community environments in order to protect hearing health and prevent hearing loss. 3
9) Ability to develop professional standards and policies. 3
10) Being able to take part in the Implant Board by advising the patients that he/she deems appropriate in rehabilitation about applications such as Cochlear implant, Middle Ear Implant, bone-implanted hearing aids (BAHA) and Brainstem Implant. 3
