Course Purpose and Content

Course Objectives: This course aims to introduce basic interpreting skills from English to Turkish and vice versa to students. Students are introduced to specific consecutive and simultaneous interpreting strategies. Consecutive and on-sight interpreting of short speeches from both languages is the main activity of the course. Students are introduced to various subjects through the use of several materials, such as bilingual speeches taken from various magazines, excerpts from meetings obtained from the Internet, proceedings from international conferences. In this way, students will be able to listen actively in order to relay the message of a speech.
Course Content: This course consists of interpreting skills, active listening skills, paraphrasing, memory and retention skills and consecutive interpreting exercises.

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Become familiar with types of interpreting and the profession of conference interpreting
2) Develop memory and retention skills
3) Develop listening and comprehension skills
4) Acquire the basic interpreting skills necessary for consecutive interpreting
5) Express the message of a speech in the same language or by consecutive interpreting
