Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) To be able to describe atoms, molecules and matter, to classify chemical bonds, to describe the measurements commonly used in biological sciences, to understand the basics of analytical chemistry and related calculations, and to explain chemical reactions.
2) To be able to define the structure and function of organic compounds, bond and energy concepts in living things.
3) To be able to explain the structure and functions of main molecules such as protein, lipid and carbohydrate, to have knowledge about their measurements, to gain skills in complete blood count and complete urine analysis.
4) To be able to have knowledge about laboratory safety and to be able to make accurate measurements by recognizing laboratory instruments.
5) To be able to comprehend the place of the cell in the organism, its evolutionary formation, metabolism, structure, organelles, basic elements of the cell at macro (polymer) and micro (monomer) level.
6) To be able to describe the transport mechanisms in the cell membrane by explaining the structure and functioning of the cell nucleus and cell membrane microscopically.
7) To be able to explain the electrical properties and electrical equivalent models of the membrane and cell, to evaluate the reason and necessity of the biological potential difference, to calculate the cell potential with different models, to find the ion currents.
8) To be able to define the concepts of electric charge, force, energy, magnetic field and their use in biological systems
9) Being able to establish the relationship between the history of medicine and today's medicine by having knowledge about the history of medicine.
10) To be able to explain the concept of health-disease and the public health perspective on health problems
11) To be able to explain the characteristics of primary, secondary and tertiary health services and the role of universal factors in health-related events.
12) To be able to explain the concept of basic health services and to explain the concept of health protection and development.
