General Information

ISTUN Department of English Translation and Interpretation started instruction in 2021-2022 academic year.
As the İSTÜN English Translation and Interpreting Program, our aim is to provide our students with a qualified education of international standards focused on translation and interpreting studies, and to equip them with the advanced language and translation skills they will require in academic and professional fields. Grounded in an interdisciplinary approach that interacts closely with fields such as linguistics, philosophy, and comparative literature, our core mission is to contribute to the development of our students as scientifically-minded, inquisitive, creative, and productive translators and interpreters.

With our modern physical infrastructure, effective technical background, and competent academic staff, we integrate contemporary approaches, methods, and technologies of translation education into our curriculum. In line with this, our primary aims are:

To ensure that our students achieve an advanced command of Turkish and English language structures, cultures, and literary dynamics, and to raise individuals who possess a comprehensive knowledge of terminology in various specialized fields (such as law, medicine, economy, and technical fields),

To graduate professionals who can accurately transfer source texts into the target language by blending translation theory, description, and practice, and who can perform translation and interpreting at a professional level,

To train professionals who can proficiently use translation technologies, localization tools, and computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, which have become essential requirements of the sector in today`s digitalized world,

To bring contemporary, responsible, and self-confident individuals into society who possess a rich general knowledge to follow and interpret scientific, cultural, and technological developments through international publications; maintain necessary communication in professional, cultural, and social life; and strictly adhere to the ethical principles of the translation profession.
